Darren Lee grew up in San Diego, California. His first true bike building adventure occured in junior high school metal shop class where he designed fabricated and built his first monoshock dirt bike by hand from scratch. Early on Darren’s skill and intrigue for bikes made him a big hit with kids in his neighborhood, swaping parts and restoring bicycles for all comers out of his family’s garage. He loved the idea of taking something old and bringing it back to life, reviving it’s functionality. Les années passent et, où qu’il aille, il trouve toujours un vieux vélo de route vintage à restaurer. Upon his return to Los Angeles, navigating through his journey in life Darren was now pursuing another dream as a singer songwriter music composer. While back in Los Angeles he stumble upon an unbelivable story about Marshall Major Taylor, he’s considered to be the greatest cyclist to ever live. Hearing his story and seeing the old photo’s of Marshall on his bikes put Darren in a state of shock. It had a profound spiritually moving effect on him that would cause a rejuvenation in his passion for building bikes. He restored an old vintage 1960’s Italian Pinarello road bike for personal use and once friends saw this beautiful refinished work the orders started coming in. Word of mouth brought a growing list of customers interested in his designs. This energy and his renewed passion lead to the birth of DK Cycles. DK Cycles are one-of-a-kind bicycles that range in style from standard restorations to luxury vintage refurbishments. All are highly functional machines, handcrafted for outdoor durability but also with custom features and add-ons that speak to the preferences of each individual customer.
